The Mobility Challenge and LDS Solution: Crisis Management Reimagined

In the modern workforce, a user might have a desk phone at the office but also work remotely via laptop and softphone. The user becomes active in two separate locations, both tied to the same phone number and extension. The user’s location information might not update, and thus, a 9-1-1 call might be routed to the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) covering their work location, potentially delaying response times. 911inform LDS is here to address and solve this issue. It offers top-notch crisis management, ensuring that every 911 call is accurately routed and handled swiftly.

911inform LDS Functionality

Over 96% of the population owns a smartphone or laptop device. With the majority of Americans utilizing these devices, they can act as “helper” beacons alongside the location services embedded within them. The user receives a link by text message or email that extracts the location from the device and updates the location databases.

While 96% of Americans own a cellphone, 81% of those cellphones are smartphones. Additionally, approximately 75% of Americans own a computer or laptop device.

LDS Configuration

Building Floor Plans and User Extensions Database

Our system maps current building floor plans, outlining desk phone locations, and creating a user extensions database. When a phone is moved and disconnected, the software detects when it is reconnected to the phone system at a different location.

Location Update Process

From Smartphone

  • The user receives a text message informing them that their phone has a new registration pending. They follow the link to update the location.
  • As they follow the link, the software generates the expected location based on the GPS coordinates of the phone. When in a 911inform connected building, the provided map will be visible, allowing the user to tap a new room.
  • When a user is outside of a mapped building, a Google Maps pin drop is provided. The user will have to verify the location or enter the current street address.

From Laptop

  • The user receives an email informing them that their phone has a new registration pending. They follow the link to update the location.
  • When in a 911inform connected building, the provided map will be visible, allowing the user to click on a new room. When clicking on a new room, the user will have to hit okay on the Coordinates window, updating their new location.
  • When a user is outside of a mapped building, a Google Maps pin drop is provided. The user will have to verify the location or enter the current street address.

The information is only gathered at the time of updating. Once the update is stored in the database, the collection process ends.

Next Generation 911 (NG911):
A Giant Leap in Crisis Management

NG911 provides PSAPs and first responders with multimedia location content that is dynamic and near real-time. Armed with this information, first responders can locate emergencies within buildings with less guesswork, ultimately reducing response times and enabling them to save more lives. 911inform’s LDS offering is an easily configured and deployed solution to Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’S Act for premise-based or hosted voice solutions.

Key Features of 911inform LDS:
Advanced Smart Security Solution

Compliance with Legislation

911inform LDS helps organizations to comply with both Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’S Act.

Kari’s Law

Under Kari’s law, a 911 system must allow direct access to 911 without any access codes. Additionally, the system must provide on-site notification that the call has occurred and from what station. Our emergency mass notification system is designed with this compliance in mind.

RAY BAUM’S Act

Any call to 9-1-1 must deliver a dispatchable location to the PSAP/ ECC (Public Safety Answering Point/ Emergency Communications Center) and to on-site personnel. 911inform LDS is designed to meet the needs of the modern workforce, guaranteeing efficient and effective emergency response no matter where the users are located, thus adhering to RAY BAUM’S Act.
